Weekly Wine #5 – Quiet and simple

Another week is passed and time for another Weekly Wine is upon us. The fifth iteration of this exploration into the world of wine will be rather short. Mainly because we didn’t drink much wine this weekend, remember, last weekend was a bit of a blowout, when it comes to alcohol consumption.

So, I will give you my 2 cents on a wine, that we find quite special. It’s the wine we discovered in a local winery, where we had lunch with our families on our wedding. The Winery Lutz. They seem like a quiet and relatively small wine producer, but the wines are exceptional. In the cold winter months we usually stick to red wines and this time around it is no different.

Drum roll, please …

So, the eagle eyed among you will notice the picture is from October of last year. And you would be correct, this isn’t a new wine for us, just very special.

At first the smell was rather restrained, not very distinct. Even though we were drinking it at room temperature. But after a while and many sniffs later a rather fruity smell came through. This vintage has a medium body meanwhile the taste offers mild tannins and a hint of raspberries and it lingers for some time. As time passes the aftertaste becomes sweeter, almost tasting of chocolate, with every passing second.

I’m not sure if it can be found in supermarkets in Germany, considering the size of the winery, I’d think that’s unlikely. But if you are ever in Oberderdingen and find yourself peckish and in need of a good glass of wine, be sure to stop by Lutz’s. And you can thank me later. 🙂

Verdict: 4,5/5

That’s it for this week’s Weekly Wine. Stay tuned for another one next week. I am planning on adding more diversified content during the week, so stay tuned.
